Visiting Photographer for the day

Photographer Bernie Dechant graciously visited the photography students at St. Athanasius School the other week. He showed the kids his beautiful photographs and showed them how to use a medium format camera. I was just so glad that the kids could be able to see such beautiful and strong work taken by Bernie. So I hope some of what he shared with the kids sinks into their minds when they are taking photographs and that they know if they want they can also take amazing photographs to if they like. The photographer who visited is Bernie Dechant and his website is www.berniedechant.com . He is super talented!!

Photography field trip at Pelham Bay Park

Today, I went with the kids from the photography class at St Athanasius on a field trip to Pelham Bay Park. It was so beautiful and so great to see the kids just get to enjoy the outdoors. Most of the kids live in the Bronx and they so rarely get to enjoy the beach and outdoors. I had a blast with the kids. I felt encouraged today. Also, my friend Andrea, who is helping with the project told me some encouraging news about a cafe in Philly that is helping Andrea and I conduct some more photography workshops in Rwanda this summer. It was a good day, one of the days that I feel inspired to want to continue with the photo project. It was so worth it all just to see the kids enjoy a day out in the park!

Getting started!!

Okay, I am new at all this tech/twitter/facebook stuff but I have always wanted to create a blog so why not start now. I am envisioning that I will not be writing on this a lot for the next few months but I am planning to do more of it when I return to Rwanda for six months. That's all for now!!
